Welcome to the 2019 Warhammer 40K Escalation League for gamers in and around Utah Valley!
The league is targeted for participants in Utah county. However, people outside of this region are welcome to join!
The main goal of the league is to introduce new players to Warhammer 40k, meet new people to play with, make progress on building your armies, and overall, have fun. =)
The second goal of the league is to build the community and be a net positive for the players and stores involved.

How The League Works
Each player will be expected to play at least one game every two weeks. These two week windows are the League Rounds, of which there will be 7. There will also be an optional apocalypse game at the end of the league. The exact date and location of this game is yet to be determined.
Players will be expected to field a certain size of army each round. The first round will be 500 points with each round growing by 250 points. By the end of the league players will have a 2000 point army. Though having painted armies is always awesome, it is not a requirement for this league.
Players will be assigned opponents each round, based on their win/loss record. We will strive to ensure players are not paired up against the same opponent throughout the league but that may happen when necessary.
We prefer games be played at the game stores around the valley but games can be played anywhere that is agreed upon by all those involved in the game. When games are played at the various game stores around the valley, we encourage the use of particular Battlezones that we’ve assigned to each store. These are entirely optional but do add some flair and fun to the game. Please consider using them.
The scenario, along with any special modifiers, will be posted along with the pairings on the first day of the league round. Please play that scenario for your league game.
After completing a game, all players need to fill out the post-game form.
Additional games may be played, either in standard 40K, Kill Team, Titanicus, or some other Warhammer 40K sub-game. These extra games can use the current scenario, if applicable, or can play something else. It is up to league members to coordinate these extra games.
There is a separate post-game form to fill out for these additional games. These games will not apply to your win/loss record for the league but can play into possible bonuses for the apocalypse game at the end of the league.
Some members of the league are continuing an already existing narrative for their armies. We strongly encourage everyone to do the same if they are not already. Please post your story, or a link to where it’s posted, in the league’s Facebook group.

Joining
As we’re now past the half-way point for the league, we are no longer accepting new players. Stay tuned for information about the next league or campaign though!
The entry fee is purely for prize support and participation gifts for the player.
Joining the Facebook group is not an absolute requirement but is highly recommended as it makes communication between players much easier and provides a place to share stories and battle reports.
We also have a Discord server for league members only. Upon joining the league, you should receive an email with information on joining the Discord server and a collection of other resources created for league member use. If you do not receive this email within 2 days of filling out the League Entry form, contact James Poulsen (his information is found on the League Leadership page).
Joining Late
Anyone may join the league at any time. You must pay the entry fee no matter how many rounds have passed. Players that join late may not receive a participation item on time, though we will try to get our best to do so.
Leaving the League
We understand things may come up, resulting in you needing to withdraw from the league. You may still receive a participation item and are welcome to join us in the ending apocalypse game. However, you will no longer be eligible for any awards and will not receive a refund.
No-Shows
If a player has not played a game for at least 2 rounds in a row, and it appears to be due to them being unresponsive or difficult to schedule a game with, the league admins will attempt to reach out to said player to see what is going on. If the player still doesn’t play a subsequent 3rd round, the league admins may deem that player a no-show.
Players designated as no-shows will effectively be withdrawn from the league. The player will not be included in future rounds’ pairings, will not receive a refund and will no longer be eligible for any awards.
Sportsmanship
All players are expected to be respectful and keep each and every game a fun experience. Please review the Sportsmanship paragraph in the rules section for further details. Understand that the WAAC (win at all costs) mindset is highly frowned upon for this league and will quickly result in your dismissal from the league.

Hobby & Paint Days
We’re looking into scheduling some hobby/building and paint instructional days for league members as we’re trying to help new people get into the hobby and help veterans increase their skills. Look for more details about this on the Facebook group.
If you’re interested in hosting/teaching such days, please contact one of the league admins and let us know what day of the week and time frame works best for you.

Scoring
This league is meant to be as non-competitive as possible. To achieve this, we are not awarding anything for winning games. Instead, players will receive raffle tickets for each game they participate in, regardless of winning or losing. These tickets will be put into the pot for a drawing during the apocalypse game at the end of the league! We’ve got some fantastic prizes lined up and we may be able to add more, based on the entry fees collected.
We do still ask who the winner and loser of games are in the post-game form. Winning and losing is tracked strictly for setting up who a players next opponent is and nothing else. A player’s win/loss record is not the only aspect taken into account for pairing players together.
Painting
Painting your models is encouraged. There is nothing quite like the joy of playing a fully painted army. However, it is not necessary for participation in the league.
We will be having a ‘Best Hobby’ competition during/after the apocalypse game at the end of the league. Each player may submit a single model or unit to be judged by their fellow league members; these models could be used in the apocalypse game but do not have to be. Its encouraged that the model/unit be of your League Faction but again, it doesn’t need to be. It must be a model new to your army since around Jan 1, 2019, and cannot be a submission from a previous league or campaign. You must be the builder and painter of the unit or model, no commissioned models please.
If you will not be present at the apocalypse game but wish to submit a model, try to arrange it to go with someone that is attending. It’s really really hard to judge a model or unit by pictures.
Narrative
Players should consider starting or continuing a story for their own armies. This helps build interest in your own and others’ armies. It gives you a chance to name the Nob that killed a Knight all on his own!
You can post your story to the Facebook group or to your own blog and link to it on the Facebook group. If you’re doing your own blog, let us know the URL for it and we’ll link your League Faction’s name on the Players page to it.
Players’ stories may be incorporated into the league’s overall story and/or have an affect on the final apocalypse game.

The Raffle & Prizes
All players will receive a commemorative item for their participation in the league.
Players will accumulate raffle tickets for each game they played during the league, no matter if they win or lose. And players that participate in the apocalypse game will receive two additional tickets. These will be used in a drawing after the apocalypse game. If you are unable to attend the apocalypse game, you will not lose your prizes; don’t worry!
If you are present during the raffle, and your name is drawn out, you will have the option to select a lower valued prize if you so choose. If you’re not present during the raffle, you will be unable to change prizes.
Potential Raffle Prizes
- Professional painting voucher Gold – Professional assembly and painting of ten (10) 25-32mm base sized models, three to five 40-60mm base sized models, or one vehicle/large base model (may exclude titanic class models)*
- Professional painting voucher Silver – Single model to be professionally assembled and painted (25-50mm base size limit)*
- $20 Black Library, Games Workshop, or Forge Wold gift cards.
- GW or Vallego Paint Pots
- And more to come!
*Vouchers for professional painting represents a strict budget and the given model count/sizes here are for reference. The quality of the paint job done is in inversely related to the size and complexity of the unit/model chosen to be painted. Professional painters are Jeremy Hansen & Janene Oakey. The professional assembly will be done by Robert Graham. These individuals each have several years of experience professionally painting and assembling miniatures.
This list may change for any number of reasons. We’ll try to get as many awesome prizes that we can based on the entry fees collected.
Store Support
Some local stores are looking into contributing to the league. If they see an increase in patrons due to our league, it will likely help their willingness to contribute so please try to play at the stores whenever possible.
